While working as a research consultant at Google, I attended “A Fireside Chat with Ray Kurzweil: The Future of Artificial Intelligence and Its Implications.” It took place on March 31, 2016, hosted by the Singularity Network and Talks at Google. I had the chance to meet him afterward and take this photo.
Two predictions have stayed with me: artificial general intelligence by 2029, and connections between our brains and the cloud in the 2030s.
A decade later, as those dates get closer and AI becomes part of everyday life, I keep thinking back to that afternoon. It feels uncanny to revisit the timelines we were discussing then. Whether they unfold exactly as predicted is still an open question.
A personal recollection of the event and the predictions that stayed with me.
